Common Transmission Problems

Transmission issues can develop gradually or appear suddenly. Identifying the problem early can help prevent more costly repairs.

Some of the most common transmission problems include:

Slipping gears where the vehicle unexpectedly changes gears
Delayed or rough shifting when changing gears
Unusual noises such as grinding, whining or clunking
Transmission fluid leaks under the vehicle
Burning smells caused by overheated transmission fluid
Warning lights or performance issues

If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s important to have your transmission inspected as soon as possible.

Professional Transmission Diagnostics

Accurate diagnosis is the first step in solving transmission issues. Our workshop uses modern diagnostic equipment along with extensive specialist knowledge to identify the exact cause of transmission faults.

Our diagnostic process typically includes:

Road testing the vehicle
Checking transmission fluid condition and levels
Inspecting drivetrain components
Electronic diagnostic scanning where applicable
Identifying worn or damaged internal components

Once the issue has been identified, we will explain the problem clearly and recommend the most suitable repair option.

Transmission Repair Options

Depending on the condition of the transmission, we may recommend several repair options. Our team will always discuss the best option based on your vehicle, budget and long-term reliability. These can include:

Component Repairs

Replacing or repairing individual components such as seals, bearings, clutch packs or synchronisers.

Transmission Rebuilds

Disassembling the transmission and rebuilding it with new or reconditioned components to restore full performance.

Transmission Replacement

Installing a new or re-manufactured change-over transmission where a rebuild may not be the most cost-effective solution.

Vehicles We Service

Our workshop services a wide range of vehicles including:

Passenger cars
4WDs and SUVs
Light commercial vehicles
Utility vehicles and vans

With decades of experience working on many makes and models, our technicians have the expertise to handle both older and modern transmission systems.

Why Choose a Transmission Specialist?

Choosing a workshop that specialises in transmissions offers several advantages:

More accurate diagnosis of transmission faults
